WuShing Publishing Co. has been hosting such pu-erh tasting events in Asia in the last five years. It’s our great pleasure that 2007 will be marked as the first-year that they bring this pro-Puerh event outside Asia to the sunny California! We will invite one or two famous pu-erh teachers in Asia to give us speeches and Q&A. The tasting event will feature some very rare 50’s and 60’s pu-erhs and some grand choices from the 70’s to 90’s. Several tea-business owners in US and Canada will also be invited. Most important of all, we will all get to meet each other and become tea-drunk in the end of the day
As this will be an invitation-only and free event with limited seats available, we like to make our friends and customers be aware of this event and start planning your vacation/visit. We hope you can confirm your participation and let us know by May 15. You can write an email to us or give us a call.
We are still working on details of this event. Will use this entry to make future announcements, so please do come back often!
Please feel free to use this entry to give/discuss ideas for this event: what you like to see, to do, to taste, to ask.
Sincerely look forward to hearing from you,
Guang & Irene
Hi Guang,
I am wondering if you will be doing a write up on this Pu-erh Tasting for the benefit of those who can only droll and unable to attend? Ok…what I like to see perhaps is a consensus from the attendees ranking the best perfomring tea tasted to the not so good performer. While this is ranked, probably you can compile some reviews from your attendees what are the high points and low lights of each tea tasted. I am not sure if I have lost you with what I have mentioned…..in most cases I do : ) All the best in your tasting!!
Yes, this event will be featured in an article in the future issue of Art of Tea and Puerh Teapot magazines following the event. As for ranking the tea, it is not quite the format of what we are planning. I mean, How can you can rank a 50’s pu-erh against a 90’s stuff.
In another format, like they did in Japan in 2006 “Yeh Shen (Wild) Cha Hwei (Tea Party)”, they tasted and voted for three cakes: 99 Green Big Tree, 99 Yi-Chang Hao and 2001 Yuan Yeh Xian. The vintages are close so the ranking makes more sense.
Let us know what kind of format would be your favorite!
Hi Guang,
Totally agree with what you said…think somehow I did miss the gist initially that the tasting is coming from various vintages.
Out of curiosity, do you conduct your tasting by grouping similar vintage and taste them? I am not sure how many teas will be arranged for tasting session but I am excited as it sounds like a really grand tea party.
My favorite format will be to rank the top 3 tea of each vintage tasted. I am sure it is not easy to do it and I do apologies because it is easier for me to say. Well, let’s hear from the rest who will be contributing to the ideas.
I am certain to keep a look out on the blog for this tasting write-up hehe…
Btw, I am like visiting your site very frequently to see if the thin paper 2001 Yuan Yeh Xian version is made available…hope to get my hands on some. Sorry I digress. Haha
Cheers
Benny
I’ll definitely be there, and I’m very excited this is happening in LA (and in such a beautiful setting).
The museum’s courtyard is a beautiful setting indeed, and it is popular for exquisite weddings, artistic/literary as well as corporate events. I look forward to being there.
HI, Guang, I really look foward to coming, meeting others who have a passion for pu erhs and getting tea drunk. See you all in June.
I am very interested in going to the event. But is there a “level” that you have to be at in order to go? As of now I’m still learning and mostly a beginner in the fine art of pu-erh appreciation.
Please don’t worry about such thing as “level”. It’s a party of pu-erh fans, as long as you can stay sober after all the cups, you are in
Dear Guang,
Although I am relatively new to the tea world, I am so grateful for all the generosity of information shared on the web – whether it be your wondeful blog, RFTD or Puerh.net and livejournal. Everyone is so kind and has so graciously supported my tea addiction.
I am a novice, but would really love to participate in this event.
BTW, the “new” Yunnan Gold Tips is absolutely delicious!
Be well. Happy sipping!
Shen
Nice
I’m not sure I can stay super sober, but I definitely was never a rowdy drunk
Where do we sign up for a reservation?
Jonathan and I are definitely, gratefully, there! Look forward to meeting you in person!!!
I will be there and am looking forward to it.
Thanks
Dear Guang,
My husband Bob and I will both be coming to the Pu-erh tasting in June if that is OK with you. Last week I was not so sure we could both be there but it is not to be missed. Really looking forward to it !
Best wishes,
Mary Lou Heiss
I realize that the event is now full. I just found out about it today. Is it possible to be placed on a waiting list for anyone who drops out? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to attend!
Many thanks!
